UNESCO has issued a request for cities interested in being named the World Book Capital in 2025. In the year following Copyright Day on April 23, 2023, UNESCO recognizes cities that have shown a commitment to promoting reading and books through the World Book Capital (WBC) program.

Accra, Ghana, will serve as the World Book Capital in 2023, commencing in April. The Acadian city of Strasburg, France, in 2024, and Guadalajara, Mexico, have served as the World Book Capital in 2022.

Cities are encouraged to submit their whole proposal to UNESCO by Sunday, April 16, 2023, in either English or French, the working languages of the UNESCO Secretariat.

The application will be available online for the first time, and the UNESCO website offers updated instructions for submissions and the standards by which candidatures are assessed.
